Minister of Environment Raimonds Vejonis and Mayor of Riga Nils Usakovs will evaluate the heat insulation works of school buildings

On Monday June 28, 2010 at 12:00 the Minister of Environment Raimonds Vejonis and Mayor of Riga Nils Usakovs are going to evaluate the progress of building heat insulation works in Ilguciems Riga Secondary School, 109 Dzirciema Street. As is known, the Ministry of the Environment organizes and provides a major share of funding for a number of building heat insulation projects all around the Latvia, using the assets of Climate Change Financial Instrument.

One of the contests at the end last year the Riga City Council received 4 million LVL for the building heat insulation of more than 20 schools. Within this project this year in Riga ambitious school building heat insulation works are taking place – windows are being changed, facades – insulated and painted, that will give great savings on heat consumption for schools during the cold months.

As the Minister of Environment Mr. Vejonis points: “These are energy efficiency projects, that not only solve the problems of heat retention in schools and are focused on the CO2 reduction and environmental preservation, but also gives very significant contribution the construction sector and thus to the recovery of Latvian economic.” Throughout the Latvia, the energy efficiency projects are already acquiring 26 million LVL, which are used to insulate the various public buildings in municipalities.

This year, for at least another 25 million LVL from the Climate Change Financial Mechanism will be used to open and even the complete the heat insulation projects in other municipal buildings, as well as higher and professional education institutions.

As it was previously reported, N. Usakovs and R. Vejonis also plan to attend Imanta Secondary School, 158 Kurzeme Pr. and Riga Ostwald Secondary School, 20Dammes Street. During the visit is planned to discuss the future cooperation of the Ministry of the Environment and the Riga City Council in the field of various other environmentally friendly projects.
