Riga has been ranked as the 97th most expensive city to live in out of 214 according to a research done by the international consulting company “Mercer Human Resource Consulting” on how costly it is for employees of foreign companies to live across the globe.

Last year Riga was in the 88th place.

Latvia’s capital is considered to be more expensive than the capitals of Lithuania and Estonia with Vilnius listed as 148th and Tallinn – 131st respectively. Meanwhile Moscow is ranked as 4th most expensive city in the world following Tokyo, Luanda in Angola and Osaka. At the same time, Moscow is also Europe’s most expensive city for expatriate workers.

Pakistan’s capital Karachi is considered to be the least expensive city in the world. Among European capitals the title goes to Skopje of Macedonia which ranked 207th.

New York serves as the basis for the research. For the most part, the rankings depend on living costs, as they make up the biggest share of expenses for foreign employees.
